Textiles — Tear properties of fabrics
Part 4: Determination of tear force of tongue-shaped test specimens (Double tear test)
The ISO 13937-4 standard mainly applies to most woven textile fabrics, but can be applicable to fabrics produced by other techniques. Part 4 of this standard specifies a procedure to determine the tear strength (tear force) of tongue shaped textile fabric specimens using the double tear test method. A rectangular specimen is cut in multiple places to form a tongue, which is used to propagate two tears and determine the tear strength or tear properties.
For this test, it is important to have an increased test data rate to ensure the capture a high number of data points. This is because when individual fibers within the fabric fail, the data rate must be fast enough to catch these peaks.
