ISO 1798 Tensile Strength of Flexible Cellular Polymeric Materials

ISO 1798 determines the strength and deformation properties of flexible soft foam cellular materials when a test sample is pulled at a constant test speed until it breaks. It is commonly used to compare materials and for quality control purposes.

If the test material shows a predominant direction of the cellular structure (orientation of the cells), then the test samples should be taken so that their longitudinal axes lie at right angles to the testing direction. Test samples are rectangular and with or without skin. The test samples are cut out with one of the two types of test sample cutters and are 10 to 15 mm (0.3 to 0.5 in) thick.
